Risk Management for Signal Followers (2025): How Much to Risk per Trade
If you follow trading signals for US30, NAS100, SP500, Gold (XAU/USD) or Forex, this is the rule that keeps accounts alive: your risk per trade must stay between 1% and 2% of total account balance. Not “sometimes.” Always. This is how you survive bad days, bad weeks, even bad months without blowing your account.
1️⃣ The 1–2% Rule (FXPremiere Standard)
Risk per trade = how much you are willing to LOSE if the stop loss hits. If you have $1,000 in the account and you risk 2%, that means your maximum allowed loss on that setup is $20.
That $20 limit then controls your lot size. Lot size comes LAST. Risk comes FIRST.
Account: $5,000
Max risk (2%): $100 per trade
If the stop loss on US30 is 50 points, you size the position so that 50 points = $100 loss max.
If you cannot size it safely → you do not take that position. That’s risk discipline.
2️⃣ You Don’t Control Win Rate — You Control Risk
You cannot force a winning signal. You can force correct position sizing. Pros accept “small controlled red” as part of doing business. Amateurs scale up to “make it back now” and detonate their account on one candle.
Truth: Accounts die from position size, not from being wrong.
3️⃣ Drawdown and Recovery Math
Most retail traders do not understand how expensive it is to recover after a big loss.

When you “gamble just this once” and lose 40%, you didn’t just lose money. You created a recovery math problem that is almost impossible for a normal trader to fix.
4️⃣ One Trade Is NOT Allowed to End Your Month
FXPremiere’s rule for 2025 is simple: No single trade is allowed to damage more than 2% of the account. No single DAY is allowed to damage more than 4% of the account.
If you hit 4% down on the day, you are finished for that session. You stop. You don’t chase. You don’t “win it back” on NAS100. You live to trade the next session.
Max daily loss = 4%.
Hit that limit? You are done until the next day.
Breaking this rule = you are no longer trading. You’re gambling emotionally.
5️⃣ Why Lot Size Must Stay Stable (Even After a Win)
Traders think the danger is losing streaks. Reality: the danger is the post-win overconfidence trade. You win one big US30 move in New York, then you double size on the next scalp because “you’re in the zone.” That overconfident impulse entry is statistically the one that blows accounts.
If your lot size jumps after a win, you are not trading a plan. You’re high.
6️⃣ TP1 / TP2 / Runner = Psychological Insurance
When FXPremiere gives TP1 / TP2 / Runner, this is not “take profit if you feel like it.” It’s engineered psychology:
- TP1: secure partial, kill fear
- TP2: pay the day
- Runner: controlled greed if the move extends
People who refuse to partial close always say: “I was up huge and didn’t take profit and then it reversed.” That is not bad luck. That is failed risk management.
7️⃣ When You Lose: Stop Trading, Don’t Speed Up
You are most dangerous to yourself immediately after a loss. The instinct is “I’ll make it back now.”
No. You’re emotional. You’re not allowed to size bigger when emotional. You are not even allowed to trade at all until you’ve reset. This is how you avoid revenge-trading NAS100 to zero at 18:00 GMT.
