SMC Fundamentals for Gold
Liquidity Sweep
Price wicks beyond a clear high/low to trigger stops, then reclaims the range/level. The reclaim is the signal, not the wick.
BOS vs CHOCH
BOS: continuation structure break. CHOCH: regime shift. On gold, use 1–5m for triggers within 15–60m context.
FVG (Imbalance)
Three-candle inefficiency left by displacement. Retrace into FVG + level confluence = quality entry zone.
Context matters: align entries with session behavior and macro tone (DXY/rates).
Breaker Blocks & Inducement
Breaker Block
Prior OB that fails and flips. After a sweep + CHOCH, the breaker often becomes the retest level to join the new leg.
- Identify failed OB after displacement
- Wait for reclaim/acceptance above/below
- Enter on retest into breaker + FVG overlap
Inducement
A “too-clean” level engineered to invite early entries. Gold loves to run inducement before the real move. Avoid jumping the gun; let inducement get cleared.
Session Playbook: Applying SMC to XAU/USD
- Map Liquidity: Asia high/low, prior day H/L, session VWAP zones.
- Wait for the Sweep: London often sweeps Asia extremes; New York refines or inverts.
- Confirm with Structure: CHOCH/BOS on 1–3m that aligns with 15–60m bias.
- Execute at the Level: Retest of breaker/FVG/POI; no chasing wicks.
- Manage Risk: SL beyond invalidation wick; partials 1R–2R; trail if displacement continues.

Context: Asia high swept at London open
Trigger: CHOCH down on 1–3m, displacement leaves bearish FVG
Entry: Retest into FVG + breaker (prior bullish OB flip)
SL: Above sweep wick • TP1/TP2: Prior EQ / Asia low
Setup B — Break & Retest Long
Context: NY continuation with rates softer, DXY easing
Trigger: BOS up with strong bodies, small wicks
Entry: Retest of breaker block + FVG overlap
SL: Beneath invalidation wick • TP1/TP2: Next HTF supply / previous day high

Filtering False Signals
- Spread check: Skip entries during extreme spreads (news minute).
- Volume/acceptance: A reclaim must hold, not just tick above/below.
- Confluence: Favor sweeps that align with HTF bias + session VWAP reclaim.
- No fixation: If the level fails, stand down. Don’t “make it work.”
